Rules of the Competition (2014)

1) Team formation and registration

-        The team is formed of five persons (gender balance should, but not necessarily, be followed J );

-        Team dress – without restrictions, yet some distinctive accent (uniform colour, T-shirts, caps, flags, etc.) would be eligible;

-        The team elects its leader (captain) which is responsible for the proper team‘s behaviour, organization and compliance of the competition rules;

-        Before the competition starts, team captains must register their teams and team members. Following registration, individual registration numbers are given to each participant; these numbers must be attached in a prominent place of sportsman’s dress and not being lost during the competition.

2) Events:

a) a forest orienteering (run)

-        The time in an orienteering (run) is recorded from the start line to the cross of the finish line. An individual time of each participant is recorded and later combined with the times of all team members to make a gross time of the team. The sportsmen start their run at 15-second intervals according to the approved participant list;

-        The route is marked by arrows painted with a coloured spray paint on trees, stones, etc. Following the marked course is mandatory; the team will lose scores upon breaking this rule by shortening the way;

-        In the intermediate checkpoints, the participants will be given special tasks/questions from the field of forestry, ecology, dendrology, hunting, etc. which are not announced before the competition. Up to 20 seconds are given to fulfill a task / to answer a question. Fulfillment or failure to fulfill the tasks / to answer the questions will respectively add or subtract a point to/from each participant.

b) an (estaphete) relay „A Sector of Forest Obstacles“

-        All team takes part in the relay together. The route of the relay is divided into different laps. The team delegates one member to negotiate each lap, i.e., according to internal agreement, each member of the team must take one (the most suitable) task (lap). At the termination of each lap, the participant transfers a stick to the awaiting team mate. The last participant crosses the finish line;

-        The gross team time is recorded, and all acquired positive and negative points are counted. Loss of the stick subtracts three points from the team.

3) Scoring of the results and revealing the winners

-        Individual times shown by each team member in the orienteering run and in the (estaphete) relay are summed up to make the gross team’s time, while all earned scores are summed up to make the gross team’s score;

-        After the completion of the final task, the gross team’s score is calculated following the weighted principle: 50% of the gross score is determined by a gross team time spent in all competition tasks, while another 50 % is determined by a sum of all earned points;

-        The winner team and prizewinners are revealed by ranking all teams by their gross scores.
